1967: Jimi Hendrix’s "Purple Haze" was released.

1967: The Beatles (along with Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull and scores of newsmen) travel to Bangor to see the Mahareshi.

1967: At Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, the three-day Festival of the Flower Children begins, with Alan Price, Marmalade and Bee Gees. The Duchess of Bedford was reported as saying she thought it was a flower show.

1969: Elvis performs the laughing version of "Are You Lonesome Tonight" in Las Vegas.

1970: Jimi Hendrix opened his recording studio in New York City. Because of its state-of-the-art 36-track recording capability, it attracted many top rock groups.

1970: Jimi Hendrix made his last public appearance at the Isle of Wright Pop Festival in England.

1970: Duane Allman started recording as a member of Eric Clapton’s new band, Derek & the Dominoes.

1976: Aerosmith was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone.

1977: The Pretenders played their first public gig, opening for Strangeways.

1978: The first Canada Jam Festival in Ontario took place.

1980: Tom Peterson quit Cheap Trick due to the "personal and musical differences." He was replaced by Pete Comita. However, he returned to the group in 1988.

1983: The film "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence," starring David Bowie, opened in the United States.

1987: Sonny Bono announces he is running for mayor of Palm Springs, California. He won the election.

1990: Randy Newman won an Emmy for composing music for "Cop Rock."

2001: Madonna filmed live footage at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, MI. The show was released as "Madonna - Drowned World Tour 2001."

2002: Peter Noone sues the former Herman's Hermits drummer for touring under that name with a bogus group.

2008: Join the Band, by boogie rockers Little Feat is released. The 14-track collection, featurings Bob Seger singing on a song titled "Something in the Water," The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson on a rendition of the 1974 Feat number "Oh, Atlanta" and Jimmy Buffett on two cuts. The disc was recorded at Buffett’s studio in Key West, Florida.
