1929: Ella Fitzgerald and The Delta Rhythm Boys recorded "It's a Pity to Say Goodnight."

1954: Louis Jordan begins four-month American road tour in El Paso, Texas.

1958: Alan Freed’s "Big Beat Show" opens at Brooklyn’s Fox Theatre, a change of venue following the summer rock and roll riots. Frankie Avalon, Bill Haley, Danleers and Chuck Berry share the bill.

1958: George Harrison joined the band Quarrymen. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were also members.

1962: Elvis Presley's movie "Kid Gallahad" opens.

1964: Roy Orbison’s single "Oh, Pretty Woman" was released. The song was Orbison's second #1 hit.

1964: Billboard reports guitar sales in both the U.S. and U.K., in the wake of the British Invasion, have hit their peak since 1957, when Elvis Presley sparked a boom.

1966: The Beatles ended their fourth American tour at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. It turned out that the show was their last public concert.

1966: Lesley Gore, the Cyrkle and Peter & Gordon appear on NBC-TV's last "Hullabaloo" show.

1966: The Youngbloods record "Get Together."

1969: Bob Seger files for divorce from his wife of ten months.

1969: The last full Beatles concert ever is held, in San Francisco's Candlestick Park.

1970: The Kinks’ single "Lola" was released.

1970: Edwin Starr’s "War" hits #1 on the pop singles chart.

1970: Eric Clapton’s self-titled debut solo album peaks at #13 on the LP charts.

1976: At a reunion concert of the original Spirit in Santa Monica, California, Neil Young joins the band on stage during their encore rendition of Bob Dylan’s "Like a Rolling Stone." Bass player Mark Andes requested Young to come up on stage but guitarist Randy California objects to his presence and pushes him away. The song is completed when the misunderstanding is cleared up.

1977: 3 people were arrested in Memphis after trying to steal Elvis’ body. As a result his body was moved to Graceland.

1981: The soundtrack to the film, "Heavy Metal" enters the album charts. The LP features tracks by Stevie Nicks, Cheap Trick, Devo and Sammy Hagar.

1984: Prince's single "Let's Go Crazy"/"Erotic City" were released.

1986: The former "American Bandstand" studio was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The studio is in Philadelphia.

1987: An American liquor company reports a 200% sales increase of its Brass Monkey cocktail mix, thanks to the Beastie Boys hit, "Brass Monkey."

1987: Los Lobos' remake of Ritchie Valens' 1959 classic, "La Bamba" hits #1 on the pop singles chart.

1987: The soundtrack to the Kiefer Sutherland vampire movie "The Lost Boys" enters the album chart. It features songs by INXS and Roger Daltrey.

1990: Elton John checked into a rehab center in Chicago, for bulimia, drinking and drugs.

1991: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers begin their U.S. tour in Denver.

1992: Billy Joel’s remake of Elvis' "All Shook Up" peaks at #92 on the pop singles chart. The song was from the soundtrack of the film "Honeymoon In Vegas."

1992: Guns N’ Roses "November Rain" peaks at #3 on the pop singles chart.

1995: While shooting the music video for Meat Loaf’s "I'd Lie for You," a pilot and cameraman were killed in a helicopter crash in the Sequoia National Forest about 150 miles north of Los Angeles, CA.

1995: The IRS places a $661,456 lien on Aretha Franklin's home in a tax dispute.

1996: Isaac Hayes, who co-wrote the Stax classic "Soul Man," sent a protest letter to presidential candidate Bob Dole requesting Dole to stop using his song, which his supporters had changed to "I'm A Dole Man."

1999: Cher performs live in concert on an HBO cable special.

2007: Security Guard Gary Armijo files a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging that Axl Rose severely injured him at a show in December 1996.

2008: Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers wrap up off their North American arena tour with a show in Woodlands, Texas.
